Be Counted For Plano!

Plano Census

Every year, the federal government can allocate more than $400 billion to states and communities based in part, on census data. Census data:

  • Affects school budgets and programs
  • Helps community planners determine where to build new schools and roads
  • Helps decision-makers fund vital services such as hospitals, health center programs, and child, senior and cultural programs.

Ultimately, Plano is counting on YOU! In March 2010, your census form will arrive in the mail; please complete your census form and "BE COUNTED IN 2010". For more information, visit: www.planocensus.org

Unwelcome Thanksgiving Surprise!

Don't Drink and Drive

Several of our home owners received a very unwelcome surprise for Thanksgiving this year. At approximatley 2:30am Thanksgiving morning a speeding driver lost control of his vehicle and crashed into the yard at 1625 Endicott. The 18 year old driver from a nearby neighborhood was charged with DWI by the Plano Police Department. Before coming to a stop the out-of-control vehicle severely damaged a parked SUV, skidded 149 feet and obliterated two brick mailboxes at 1621 and 1625 Endicott Drive and finally came to rest at the base of a large maple tree. The resulting crash reportedly sounded like a bomb going off. The debris from the brick mailboxes looked like it too! Bricks were flung as far as 50 feet damaging a parked vehicle and the front door at 1625 Endicott.

You can see more photos of the aftermath at http://www.phlashnet.com/myphotos/gary/GalleryViewAlbum_04.php?assn_id=11624&img_gallery_id=4

Legacy Drive Brick Wall Repair Begins

Brick Wall Repairs Begin

City contractors began working on repairing the wall along Legacy Drive in November. This is a second phase of repair activity that began several years ago with phase one. This second phase will begin where the first repair phase stopped. The first repair project replaced about 10 panels along Legacy Drive starting at our corner at Red River Drive and Legacy. This second phase should replace the remaining panels along Legacy Drive to the end of our neighborhood and includes replacing broken walls on the corner where the Cross Creek West sign is located.

Several years ago when the initial repair activity began one of our board members noticed that the contractors were not using the correct wire This was brought the attention of the City inspector and eventually led to most of the repairs being torn down and rebuilt with the correct wire. Let's hope the contractor uses the correct wire this time!

Plano Schools Begin Monday, August 24, 2009: Watch Your Speed
School Zone Sign

Plano Schools Begin Monday, August 24, 2009. Plano Police Officers will be heavily enforcing school zones, crosswalks and speed limits to assure a safe commute to school. Remember, the children walking to school in our neighborhood are our friends' children, our neighbors' children and our own children. Please drive safely througout the neighborhood.

The Plano Police Department offers the following reminders for safe motoring throughout the school year:

  • Drive 20mph in designated zones
  • Commute around areas of school traffic to get to work.
  • Never "wave" a child across the street from your vehicle
  • Don't drop your children out at random spots along the road to school.
  • Watch for clearly marked pedetrian crossings at locations where Crossing Guards are not on duty.
  • Use carpool lanes correctly and don't unload except at the school entrance.
  • Observe and obey the Cross Guard directions.

New Spring Flowers

Spring Clean-up

We completed our annual Spring Clean-Up this week. The flower beds are cleared and our yellow Coreopsis "Nana" perennials planted last year are blooming and looking good. The aquatic lilies are just beginning to sprout and we should have blooms by mid-May. We added a number of annuals including caladiums across the back for a splash of red color, a row of Silver Dust for a backdrop of silvery white and of course yellow marigolds for beautiful golden yellow color across the front. We hope everyone in the neighborhood enjoys the view at our entrance. Thank you volunteers for your time and hard work to make our corner beautiful.

Late Winter Clean-Up

Winter Clean Up

We completed our annual winter cleanup on Wednesday. The perennial yellow Coreopsis "Nana" planted two years ago are beginning to bloom and the perennial Aquatic Lilies planted two years ago are also just beginning to emerge. Although the blue Scalia are "annuals" they seem to have survived the winter and look like may provide us with color this year as well. With the leaves removed, the flower beds cleaned, the shrubs freshly trimmed, and the emerging blooms our entrance at Red River and Legacy looks great and is well prepared for our spring clean-up and spring planting next month.

Special thanks to our young volunteer, eight year old Kathryn. She helped a lot with our winter clean up this year.

New American Flag

New Flag

You may have noticed that our American flag flying behind our corner had become somewhat tattered. We raised a new flag today and will give our old flag to our local Cub Scout Den 8 for proper retirement. The cub scouts provide a community service by honorably disposing of the worn United Stages Flag. The new "Old Glory" flies proudly over our entrance at the northeast corner of Red River and Legacy.
